Thank you for your interest in becoming a referee for Mustang Soccer. Mustang Soccer, as part of USSF, sponsors a number of Referee classes each year and we are always looking for new referees.

You can become a United State Soccer Federation (USSF) certified referee by completing either the Grade 9 (Recreational Youth Referee) or Grade 8 training program.

Mustang also offers training to become a U6 Pony or U7/U8 Parent Referee for your team.

Grade 9: This is an 8 hour course taught in 2 4-hour or 1 9-hour session. A Grade 9 or Recreational Youth Referee may referee ONLY U14 and younger recreational games and is aimed at training parents of the players on how to referee games at their children's level.

The registration fee with USSF is $20 per year, all of which goes to USSF, and is paid by the referee. If you are a Mustang area referee, then upon your graduation from our course, we will supply you with a referee jersey, whistle, cards, and misc other equipment to help you get started as a referee. Note that you must be at least 18 years old or turn 18 during the regular season to take this course.

Grade 8: This is an 18 hour course usually taught in 6 3-hour sessions and you must be at least 14 years old or going to turn 14 during the regular season to sign up for this class. A Grade 8 referee may referee any youth game but, of course, assignments on older matches requires actual game experience.

The registration fee with USSF is $25 per year, all of which goes to USSF, and is paid for by the referee. Mustang does not provide the referee equipment when you graduate because we will pay you to referee games for Mustang and this game pay will quickly offset your equipment fees.

Grade 9 to 8 Bridging Course: This 12 hour course allows a previously trained and currently registered Grade 9 referee to become licensed as a Grade 8 referee without having to take the full 18 hours of training described above. However, taking the Grade 9 course and then immediately the Bridging Bourse is Not a way to become a Grade 8 referee.

The registration fee with USSF is $25, unless you are already registered as a Grade 9 referee for the current year - then the cost to upgrade is $5. The registration fee is paid for by the referee.

U6 Pony & U7/U8 Parent Referees: Parents of players in these age groups will referee their own children's games and Mustang will provide a free 3 hour referee training class to all parents that wish to attend. Whistles will be provided to all class attendees and again there is no cost to the parents who attend this class.
